The book of Daniel tells the story of Daniel and his friends, taken from home and thrust into the foreign land of Babylon. The culture around them tried to impose itself upon them. Their names were changed, they were pressured to eat forbidden food and to bow to other gods. However, they made a decision to not be transformed by their culture, but instead to transform the culture around them. We need to do the same.

Hard workers are often told to slow down and feel bad about working hard. However, there are times when slowing down and stopping is not an option. Psalm 34 shows that acknowledging God in the midst of difficulty will help to get us through.

In Luke 7:18-35, Jesus has an encounter with John's disciples. They are sent to ask, "Jesus, are you the messiah?" Behind this question is a bigger question, one we all face: Do I matter? In Jesus' response we find an answer not only for John but also for us.

Faith is trusting in what God has promised. We may or may not see the results of this trusting obedience, in this life, but we certainly will in the next. As we explore the people of faith in Hebrews 11 we too can live with an eternal, not a temporary perspective.
